Serious About Spring

It is time to get serious about fishing locally. Here in Sea Isle City the fishing is going to be heating up quickly. The warm spring has the stripers biting already. I will be bringing my boat back from Florida next week. I will be hitting the ground running, so to speak, upon my return. I anticipate the stripers to be biting well and the bluefish should be chewing almost immediately upon my return. The stripers are already biting and historically the bluefish begin biting the third week of April. However, due to the warm spring there have already been bluefish caught. Things should be good in a hurry. There have already been flounder caught and released as well. If you're interested in booking a spring trip I recommend doing it soon. The months of April and May are usually excellent in the back bay.

Islamorada on the Fly

Fished today with Peter and Ona. Peter threw the long rod and caught a bunch on the fly. We had specks, redfish, cudas, jacks, and a pompano. Ona was fishing with a spinning rod and caught a bunch including a nice redish; her first ever!

Islamorada Backcountry

Fished today with Peter and Ona. Peter wanted to flyfish. We went back to Flamingo and poled the flats. We had a great day catching speckled trout, barracuda, jacks, and redfish. Almost all of the fish were on the fly.

Interesting Pictures

Here are a few pictures I thought were cool. The first one is of great blue heron. I have seen a lot of great blue herons in my life. I have never once seen one stand in this posture. The second picture is of a moonfish or a lookdown. I have caught several of these before but they are still pretty neat. They are paperthin and have a mirror like finish.
