Montauk!

Fished today with Peter and Anthony. We headed up to Montauk to catch a bunch of fish. Peter flyfished and Anthony threw the spinning rod. We Mohawked em. I lost count of the albies they caught but it was more than thirty. We caught them on both spinning and fly tackle. We also had two bluefish and one striper.

Blues in the Wind

Fished this afternoon with Kevin and Joe in the bay. First, I will say it did not look like the picture. It was very, very windy but we persevered. We caught a few decent bluefish on jigs despite the turbid water. On the way home we ran into a little mini blitz of blues crashing mullet and we picked a few more blues out if that. Considering the wind, it was not a terrible showing. The sunset picture was from Thursday night.

Montauk 2011 Video

Here is a little Montauk preview from last season. If we get good weather it should be as epic as ever. Check out the video and enjoy. The fall blitz is on its way.

Spanish Mackerel

Caught this nice Spanish mackerel tonight at sunset in the ocean. I catch these a lot in Florida but they are not common up here in New Jersey. It ate the fly which made it extra cool.

Bluefish

Fished yesterday afternoon with Mike, Mike, and Alec. We headed out into the ocean and had fun catching one bluefish after another until sunset. Some of the blues were over three pounds. We also caught a bunch of amberjacks and even a sea bass or two. The action was non stop.

Blues, Amberjacks, and Stripers

Longtime friends Tom and Judy joined me this evening. We headed out into the ocean. We caught bluefish and amberjacks one after an other. Lots of double headers. After that we moved into the bay and threw poppers at sunset. Judy caught her first striper ever. We had a blast.

Evening Fishing

This is a great time of year to get out and fish the afternoons until sunset. When the tides are right the striper fishing on the flats is terrific. Also, the ocean fishing is excellent as well. I fished last night and caught a bunch of bluefish, amberjacks, and other fish. I caught them on the fly, on topwater, and on jigs. It was very good.

Bay Slam

Fished with Chris and Ed this afternoon in the bay. We started off on the flats and moved to a creek mouth where we threw soft plastics and were rewarded with a few blues and a 20 plus inch weakfish. After that we headed to the inlet and scored a bluefish. As the sun set we switched over to poppers and Chris caught a striper. Chris qualified for a back bay slam since he caught a bluefish, weakfish, and a striper.

Luc's First White Marlin

Here is a video of Luc's first white marlin. We were fishing in the Wilmington Canyon a week or so ago.

Weakfish

Fished yesterday with Mike and Mike. We caught about two dozen weakfish up to 20 inches on jigs. It is so nice to see the trout coming back. I hope it continues. This fishing is beginning to remind me of fishing years ago. I hope they get bigger!

Weakfish and Croakers

Fished with Chase and Katie. We had a fun afternoon catching weakfish up to 17 inches on jigs and croakers. It is really cool to see these fish making a comeback. We caught a bunch.
