Fluke and Weakfish

Fishing continues to be excellent. Fluke fishing is off to a great start. I've caught more weakfish this spring than I've seen in years. Yesterday morning I had over twenty fluke with one between five and six pounds. I also had another nice trout. I have some availability next weekend and fluke opens this Saturday. Give me a call if you're interested.

Fluke on the Fly

I got a chance to do one of my favorite things. Catching flounder on the fly. Got several flounder on the fly tonight; it was a blast. I switched over to the jig and really started to pound on them. Then the bluefish showed up in force. At times it was one bluefish after another on each cast. I've been catching bluefish well but I haven't had a night where they bit one right after the other. Tonight was that night. The fishing should continue to be good. Fishing has been wonderful.

I know the perspective is bad on the photo but I thought it was an interesting shot.

Blues on the Fly

The fluke bite continues in the afternoon. I've been having lots of action fishing till sunset with the flounder. What's been interesting is the bite has been good despite a lot of wind. Tonight I broke out the long rod and threw some flies for some bluefish. I caught several bluefish on the flyrod before the sun went down.

Backbay Mini Slam

The outgoing tide was good yesterday. The fluke bit well providing most of the action. We caught fluke to a little over three pounds. The blues showed up during the latter half of the tide. The slam was completed with a beauty weakfish that was close to eight pounds. When the tide switched the fish quit.

Spring Variety

Fishing continues to be good. I've been getting out in the afternoon and fishing sunset. The fishing has been good with bluefish, fluke, weakfish, and stripers being caught. This evening we had a mini slam of fluke, weakfish, and a striper. Afternoons are a great time to get out and catch some fish. I do take charters during the week from 4:30-dark.

Weakfish!

It would be premature to declare a comeback, but I did catch two beautiful weakfish today. These are pictures of the second fish. The first fish was bigger but I didn't have the opportunity to take a picture. The bigger fish probably weighed around 5 pounds. It was really nice see these beautiful fish again. Both fish were released unharmed. They were both fat with row. We also caught and released a bunch of fluke today. All of the fluke that we caught would have been keepers if the season were open.

Back in Town

I'm back and so are the bluefish and the fluke! Been doing repairs and maintenance this week and transitioning back to my home waters here in Sea Isle. Put the boat in and headed out to see what's going on. There have been good reports but I needed to check things out for myself. I can say for certain, the fish are here! We caught blues to six pounds and lots of keeper sized fluke. Lots of action. There are also stripers around as well. Don't wait. The fish are here. Fluke season opens May 5th.

Back From Islamorada

After a few days of tarpon frustration, I made the long drive back home with the boat in tow. The tarpon were there and we had our shots but the tarpon and the wind didn't cooperate. We had a great winter season in the keys. Overall, the fishing was excellent. I will be doing it again next year for sure. For now though, bring on the spring season back home!

Islamorada

Jay, Dave, and I fished for tarpon today and yesterday. The conditions were marginal both days. We saw tarpon but they had lockjaw. We moved and needed to bend the rod. We caught cudas, snappers, and speckled trout. Jay sight cast a beautiful speckled trout on the flats. It was a really nice fish.

First Striper

John and I fished Sunday afternoon. The weather was lousy and the conditions were not great. But we did end up catching the first striper of the year. Not a big one but a striper.
