Sharks

Fished on Wednesday with Will, Beth, and family. We hit the ocean for sharks. We had incredibly still conditions with no wind. That is not ideal. We power chummed to cover some ground and released two dusky sharks. We also saw two hammerheads but they wouldn't eat. Pro Tip: No wind makes sharking tough. Bumping the boat in and out of gear creates a "drift". It's not ideal but those fish we caught in this trip were only caught by power chumming.

Four Keeper Flounder

Fished with John, John, Kevin, Mason, and Jack on Sunday morning. We we flounder fishing in the bay and had steady action most of the morning. We had four keeper flounder. Two of the fish were four pounders. Pro Tip: Keep a clean jig. Check your rig often and make sure there is no seaweed or debris on your rig. It can be a pain but vigilance will produce more fish.

Blues

Fished with Drew, Joe, and friends Thursday afternoon. We went in the ocean and caught some small blues on jigs and on the fly. Pro Tip: Let your jig sink all the way to the bottom before you begin your retrieve. Casting out and reeling in immediately misses all the fish that are deep.

Poppers at Sunset

Fished Thursday night with Jim and Sarah. We hit the flats in the evening with poppers. We caught and released a bluefish and a striper. It was a beautiful evening. Pro Tip: A pause between pops is very important when using a popper. 90 percent of the bites come during the brief pause between pops.

Sharks!

Fished with Peter and Al today for sharks in the ocean. We had a beautiful day and the water has been absolutely gorgeous. We released around ten sharks and had quite w few other bites. They were mostly dusky sharks with a brown shark or two mixed in. We saw a hammerhead and a large dusky shark way over 100 pounds in our slick that we couldn't get to eat. Pro Tip: Make sure to wind up all your slack before you attempt to set the hook. Trying to set the hook with slack in the line results in missed fish.

Sea Isle City Flounder

Fished yesterday morning with Sheila, Brody, and Brian in the bay. We had some flounder up to 17.5 inches but no keepers today. Brian hooked a monster cow nosed ray that provided a very exciting fight. The weather has been great. Pro Tip: Bucktails work best if you keep your line as vertical as possible but still on the bottom. Too much line out lessens their effectiveness.

Yellowfin Tuna

Went offshore with Dusty, Dan, and John on Monday. We went to the Poormans canyon. We had two yellowfins up to about forty to fifty pounds. We also jumped off a gaffer dolphin. It was a beautiful day. Pro Tip: Sometimes the early bird does get the worm. All of our bites were before 7 am. Many times the tuna bite is a low light early morning occurrence.
