Multiple Slams

The fishing at Montauk is off to a great start. Fished with Peter and Anthony. We were spin fishing and flyfishing. Saturday morning was excellent with lots of albies and blues. Midday was slow but sunset was epic. We had blitzing bass and blues on top. Sunday was good too. The albie bite was good all morning. We also had blues and stripers as well. The weather was perfect.

Montauk Fishing Report

John, Dusty, and I fished Montauk this weekend. Saturday was great. We released a dozen stripers to 27 inches, about a dozen albies, around twenty blues to over ten pounds, a few monster sea bass, some huge porgies, and a fluke. Conditions ranged and changed from very rough to flat calm throughout the day. Spent most if the day at the point. Sunday we caught a bunch of blues and albies. The albies were a little more cooperative today and we ranged all over chasing them around. We caught them on the fly and on metal. Their screaming runs never get old. What a great fish!

Montauk Day Two

Here are a few pics. Full report to follow. Fishing was very good.

Back Bay Bass

Patty and I hit the flats and the stripers were biting well. I fly-fished and caught them on floating lines and poppers. Great bites! Patty caught them on a spinning rod with a popper as well. Great fishing in shallow water.

Stripers and Blues

Fished with the Mikes on Saturday in the bay. We hit the flats in less than perfect conditions. The Mikes karma is so good, conditions don't matter. They catch fish anyway. We released five stripers to around 26 inches on poppers and two nice bluefish on poppers. We also missed a few and pulled hooks on others. It was a great day with fish spread out the entire trip.

Weakfish on the Fly

Fished with Chris in the bay yesterday. Our primary goal was to flyfish. The weather has not been great this week and the wind has been tough but we had a weather window so we gave it a shot. Our reward was a weakfish on the fly.

Fun Fishing

Fished today with Kevin and Zack in the ocean. We made it a short trip but we caught a bunch of blues and amberjacks. We had some bigger fish today. It wasn't every cast but it was close. Great day.

Every Cast

Fished with Doug and Ryan last night in the ocean. We wanted to follow up on the previous days success. It began immediately. We caught bluefish, amberjacks, blue runners, and a huge hound fish. The fish bit on jigs and poppers and literally fought over eating the lure. Lost count. It was catching, not fishing.

Seven Weight Heaven

Fished with Joe on Thursday evening. We were flyfishing only. We hit the flats looking for stripers. The water temps are in the 80s and we did not find any cooperative fish. So we changed strategies and headed into the ocean. Good move. We caught and released more blues and amberjacks than we could count. Every cast. No joke. On the fly. It was great.

Sharking

Fished with Chuck and Luigi on Saturday in the ocean for sharks. We pulled the hook in a nice one and landed a fifty pounder or so. We cut the trip a little short due to choppy seas.

Tough Day

Fished with Martha and family on Monday. We had a tough day and had some ocean issues. We finished up in the bay but the high water temps gave us little cooperation from the fish. Great people...very slow day fish wise.
