More Montauk Albies Part 2

If it was this good last year, I can't wait for this weekend!

More Montauk Albies

Last years blitz. A little morning fog to boot.

Heading to Montauk

Going up this weekend. Here is a video from last year at this time. False albies galore. My buddy Dusty is hooked up.

Montauk Video

Gearing up for Montauk this week to get in on the early season blitz. Stripers, blues, and albies are all on the menu. It can be crazy. The video shows the fast and furious action in the morning. Unfortunately, I ran out of battery life on the camera by around 10 am. What you don't see is that the fishing actually got better in the afternoon. You know that fishing is good when you take a break to eat a sandwich with fish breaking all around the boat cause you have already caught so many already.

Windy Fishing

Fished with Ted, Mike, and Dan in the back bay. We fished with poppers and covered a lot of ground. Our efforts produced one striper on the flats. The temps need to fall to get the bite to really turn on. Tons of bait in the back.

Bait, Bait, and More Bait

Fished sunset with Ren and Ren in the bay on the flats. Things haven't cooled down yet and the bait is thick in the back. Almost too thick. We ended up with one striper and about five bluefish. The fish were caught on both poppers and soft plastics.

Amberjack Video

One of the amberjacks caught today.

Blues and Amberjacks

Fished today with Marie and Marie. We caught several nice bluefish and a bunch of amberjacks. The amberjacks were over four pounds. We also saw a bunch of false albies as well. I will be looking for them with the flyrod tomorrow.

Every Other Cast

The bluefish bit the fly rod fast and furious yesterday. I had a fish on every other cast. I also had several small amberjacks as well. Sinking lines and clouser minnows were the ticket. The fish were between two and three pounds. Great action.

Strong Bluefish Bite

The bluefish bite picked up today. They are still being a little funny but they were ready to eat today. Got out with my brother Steve and caught a bunch. We also had a few nice amberjacks. The pictures of me are of amberjacks. These fish will bite the fly readily.

Slow Pick

Slow pick today. Fished with John and Troy. Spent most of the day in the bay fishing for stripers with poppers. We missed two fish. Went to the ocean and ended up catching a bunch of bluefish to about 3 pounds and two nice amberjacks that were over four pounds each.

One of the dozens we caught.

Amberjacks and Bluefish

By the bushel. Got out this evening with Dusty. We headed out to the ocean to catch some fish. We caught dozens of amberjacks and a number of bluefish. The amberjacks included this monster that Dusty hooked right away. I had a bunch of fish on the fly, both blues and amberjacks. We literally did not make two casts without hooking up.

September Stripers Two

Snuck out for a sunset cruise tonight to catch a striper with Dusty. Dusty caught one right at sunset and I missed one. Not too bad for fifteen minutes of fishing. As the water cools fishing should explode. Tides will be perfect in two weeks for evening trips.

Striper Release Video

This was the bass I released.

September Stripers

Went out scouting for stripers tonight. Great tide. There is bait everywhere. Released a 27 inch bass on a popper and a bluefish as well. As the water temps drop the fishing should explode. First, with fish in the backbay on the flats. Evening and morning tides are best. The fish are getting ready to chew.

Fluke Finale?

It's almost over for the fluke. Fished today with Joe, Joe, and Shane. We had a good day in the bay releasing around 20 fluke, several of which were very close to legal. Lots of fun.

It Ain't Over...

The fluke are still here. Fished with Tom, John, and Frank in the bay.
It was prehurricane but the fish are still biting well. We had over 25
fluke and two keepers in a three hour evening trip. We also had a
mixed assortment of sea robins, sea bass, and one bluefish that got
away. Now we prepare for the hurricane to brush by...
