Tough Night

Fished with Barry and Amed last night. We were hoping to catch
stripers on the fly. We pulled the hook on one and saw several that
were uncooperative. Water temperatures were high, around 75-77 degrees
and I'm sure that had the fish off the feed. Need some strong westerly
winds to stir things up and cool the water down.

Back to Fishing...Sharks

Back from my boat delivery to Florida. Fished today with Jim and
Conner J. We went to see if the inshore sharks were still in town.
They are. We went 10 for 14 on dusky sharks to 60 pounds. They are
still here and happy to bite.

Success

After around 1200 miles we have arrived in Stewart, Florida. Flying
home tonight.

Engine Issues

Broke down for a half hour and had to fix controls for the engine.
These dolphins came right up to the boat.

Leaving St. Augustine

Beautiful place. Loved the tiki bar.

St. Augustine

Currently in St. Augustine Florida. Marathon 190 mile ride in rough
seas with no autopilot. Yep. Manually drove almost nine hours after
the autopilot quit. Had to drive around a huge thunderstorm. See pics
of radar and storm. Off to Stewart Florida tomorrow.

Charleston, SC

Arrived today at the Megadock. This place is ridiculous. Beautiful
marina with HUGE yachts. Lots of them. Going to St. Augustine Florida
tomorrow.

Monday, August 23, 2010

Beaufort, NC

Still heading south. Currently in Beaufort. Beautiful town. Heading to
Charlestown, SC tomorrow. Delivering a boat to Stewart, FL to be sold.

Coinjock

Coinjock. Google it. Spent the night there. Made the mistake of
leaving a bridge light on. Millions of bugs dead all over the boat in
the morning. Looked like the plague. Cool thing was when the bugs get
wet they turn into a green jellyfish that will stick to the boat
forever if it dries. Note picture. Good prime rib though.

Trip to Florida

I'm currently running a private boat down the coast to be sold in
Florida. Right now I'm in Virginia Cut on my way to Pamlico Sound. The
picture is of the lock I'm sitting in as I make my way through the
canal.

Looking for These Guys

Went one for two on white marlin on Wednesday in the tournament. Going
back out Friday. Too busy to snap shots like these but figured I'd
include some previous white and blue marlin pics.

Midatlantic $500,000

Fishing the tournament this week on the Hulabaloo. Went 0 for 1 on
white marlin, missed a blue marlin, and had a ton of gaffer dolphin on
Monday. Would have been an okay day but it is a tournament...fishing
Wednesday.

Sharking

Fished today with Dave from Connecticut. Unfortunately, we had a slow
day releasing one shark and missing one. Very strange day as
conditions were perfect. Wondering if the banana that was on board was
a factor...

Sharking Pictures

These are some pictures from my trip last week with Tim K and family.
We fought and released 13 and missed 2 brown and dusky sharks. I had
stated that we only had 9 in my origional post. On that day, in two
trips, we released close to 40 sharks several of which were over 50
and some were pushing 70 pounds.

Windy

Fished today with John and Bill in the bay. It was blowing very hard
out of the northeast making it difficult to drift well. I ran the
engine to cancel out the wind. We caught and released 20 fluke in a
few hours. Sorry the picture is crooked. I couldn't get it to turn.

Midnight Stripers

Persistance pays. Fished tonight with Mike R for more stripers on the
fly. The fish were not biting where we left them the other night. Had
to search the memory banks for another spot. Ended up at a spot I used
to fish as a kid. Hadn't fished there in 15 years but the fish were
right there where I left em. Ended up catching two fish to 24 inches
on the fly.

50 Fluke in the Rain

Fished with Dave, Brian, and Dominic in the bay. Looming rain storms
kept us close to home but we slayed em anyway. We had 50 fluke and one
keeper plus a bunch of sea robins and sea bass. A rod was bent almost
the whole trip. Someone made the comment that this was more fish than
they had caught in their whole life. It wasn't me.

Inshore Mahi

Fished with Dusty and Don L. Went looking for some close mahi to catch
on the inshore pots. Tried on the flyrod but they just wanted the real
thing. Fed them peanut bunker and they ate it up. Ended up with six
for the dinner table. Short run home.

Midnight Stripers on the Fly

Fished with Mike R and Dan looking for some nighttime striper action
on the fly. We found it. We caught and released 15 stripers to 27
inches on the fly. Great action on a beautiful night.

Sunset Yesterday

Pretty cool.

Afternoon Fluking

Fished with Bob, Peter, Nick, and Andrew in the bay. We had around 25
fluke that we released. The bite slowed as the sunset.

in the bay plus some assorted sea bass and sea robins.

AM Fluke

Fished with Rich D in the bay Tuesday morning. We released around 20
fluke. Beautiful morning.

Banner Day Sharking

Fished with Rich D and company this afternoon. We had a banner trip.
We released close to 30 sharks including four "two glovers". A "two
glover" is a shark over 60 pounds that requires me to put on two
gloves to wire the fish. The fish of the day was close to 70 pounds
and was one of the biggest sharks of the season so far.

Morning Sharking

Fished with Tim and family this morning. We released 13 brown and dusky
sharks. The lack of wind made the sea perfect but our drift was really
slow. We had fish to about 55 pounds.

Blues on the Fly

Tried to go offshore with Mike R on Sunday. The swells from the
tropical storm made the ride too uncomfortable. We were going to catch
mahi in the fly but ended up catching a bunch of bluefish inshore to
save the day.

Afternoon Sharking

Fished Saturday afternoon with Jim and Ethan. We released 15 brown and
dusky sharks before sunset. The bite was hit and heavy. Fish to forty
five pounds.

Catching Up

Fished Saturday morning with Mike, George, Mike, and Jake. We released
9 browns and duskys to 40 pounds in the morning. Great guys to fish
with. Mike Jr. is turning into one heck of an angler with excellent
fish fighting skills.

20 Sharks

Fished with Jim J and crew today. Went inshore sharking. Had a fish
right off the bat and had a good slick going. We were all by ourselves
with nothing but the horizon to keep us company. Then I saw him. This
guy came barreling down on us and decided that the best place in the
entire ocean to be was 150 feet down tide from me right in the middle
of my slick. After he realized I wasn't waving at him to be friendly
he finally moved off. That put the fishing down for a good hour. Then
they really turned on. We released about twenty browns and duskys to
40 pounds. Great day minus the early aggravation.

Fluking Opportunity

Fished with John and Sue today in the back bay. We had lots of fluke
and lost count but the numbers were in the thirties. No keepers but
many were close. The fish have been consistent behind the inlet.
Finding the right drift is crucial.
