Hooked Up in Montauk

Mike R. hooked up to a big blue in Montauk on the fly.

Montauk Blitz

Fished with Mike R. today in Montauk. We ended up releasing over 40 bluefish all over ten pounds. The biggest were around 15 pounds. We also had one striper. Most of the fish were on the fly. I went into the backing over 20 times today. Awesome.

Heading to Montauk

Going up for the last time this weekend. Praying for good weather. November is looking good here at home. Stripers and blues are on their way. Starting to think about Florida. The fly above will be fed to a tarpon this spring.

Getting Ready For the Fall Blitz

Had to postpone a Montauk trip this weekend due to the weather. Will go next weekend. Fished around Sea Isle this weekend in spite of the wind. Lots of bird plays on Saturday but no fish. Got out today and found a bunch of small blues under birds. There also have been reports of some weakfish and small blitzes of big blue and bass. Just gotta be in the right place. It's starting to happen. November is prime time. I still have a few open dates.

First Striper

Fished today with Harry and Harry F. I managed to match the size of the fish to my angler! We had three small stripers in the bay. Two of which little Harry hooked himself. One of those he cast and hooked the bass all on his own. How old were you when you caught your first striper? We also had some croakers out in the ocean.

Flyrod Bluefish

Got out and fished with Joe C. yesterday. We caught a few small blues on the flyrod out in the ocean. Sinking lines and clouser minnows fished deep were the ticket.

Montauk Mayhem

Fished with Chad and Kristen S. who took advantage of my weekend packages to Montauk.  Started off the day with a lot of wind. Nothing new there. Had to go to some backup weather spots in the morning to fish in the lee of the land. Spent the morning in Gardeners Bay and moved to Orient Point. We caught several schoolie bass in jigs. Nice thing about Montauk is there is usually a place to hide no matter what the wind. Put the boat on the trailer around 2:30 and headed back to Montauk gambling the wind might drop out in the afternoon giving us a shot at the point. Very good idea. Put in at Montauk around 3:15. Upon leaving the inlet we were met with blitz after blitz. Birds everywhere. Bass and blues and albies. Fish after fish until dark. And the wind even dropped out.

Big Blitzing Bluefish

In Montauk. Once the wind abated in the afternoon the mayhem ensued. This is Chad S. with another blue on the jig.

Speechless Adolescents

Montauk Striper on the Fly

A nice flyrod bass comes to the boat.

Chad's Bass Video

Chad had just picked up the flyrod a few minutes before landing this nice striper. Montauk mayhem.
