Montauk Day Two
Fished with Mike R. On Mike's first cast to what we thought were albies (they were by the way) Mike hooked a 37 inch 18-19 pound striper on the fly. It was a really nice fish. On Mike's second cast he caught and we subsequently released a nice albie. By days end we had brought about 14 albies to the boat, all caught in the fly. What a blast.

Montauk Albies
Fished the first day in Montauk with Dusty. Lots of fog but lots of fish. We found the false albacore in short order. They were busting on the surface in pods under birds. We released about 7 or 8 albies on the fly and another 10+ on spinning rods. We also had a few nice blues mixed in. Great day. Back at it tomorrow.

Good Times and Tides
Fished with Tom and Dale last evening. Great conditions. We had light winds and fog. The fish cooperated. We had 10-12 stripers and 2-3 nice blues. One of the blues was over three pounds. There were tons of micro blues as well. All of the fish were caught while poling the flats on poppers. We had fish throughout the tide. Plus we missed a few as well.

Keeper Striper
Fished today with Chris and John in the bay. Conditions proved to be much better than forecasted. We poled the flats and had several bites on poppers. We brought three stripers to the boat. We lost one boatside that was to be released anyway and released another short. The fish of the day was a 29" 11 pound striper that was caught in about 12" of water. The rain and wind finally came and we called it a day.

Sunset Stripers
Fished tonight with Dave and Mike. We headed out to fish the flats for stripers. At first it was slow going until the tide came up and the sun began to go down. We scratched our way in water so shallow I was dragging bottom as I poled. As the sun set the fish began to chew. We ended up bringing five or six bass to the boat, broke another off, and missed three or four other stripers that didn't come tight. Let the fall begin.

Stripers are Back!
Fished the morning high tide with Dusty. We fished the flats with poppers. There are a bazillion micro bluefish in the back and tons of bait. The stripers are happy again and bit well. We released three bass and missed four others that came unbuttoned. Included in those numbers was a double header. One of the stripers we hooked was sight fished. I saw the fish and Dusty made a nice cast and hooked the fish. Water clarity is improving and the temps are coming down. The fishing in September should get better and better.

Slow Week
Fished Wednesday night with Tom S. We fished the flats with poppers for stripers. It was a beautiful evening but the water is still murky from the hurricane. Things should improve as the water cools.

Hurricane Recovery
Fished Wednesday with Peter R and crew. We tried sharking after the storm with minimal expectations. The water was still dirty and we didn't have a bite. Things still need to settle down.
