Hurricane Irene

I was going to post pictures of the aftermath of the hurricane. Luckily, there is nothing to post. Things should settle down quickly because of the beautiful post hurricane weather we will be having and fishing should quickly resume.

Hurricane Irene

I chose to get out of dodge since it appears the hurricane is headed our way. Pulled all the boats and trailered my skiff to PA. Funny thing is I think I'm getting more rain here than in Sea Isle. I hope I overreacted. We will see.

Waterspouts and Mahi

Fished offshore yesterday with Lindsey C and crew for the ladies tournament. We caught a bunch of mahi but no billfish came our way. We had to dodge several waterspouts that lingered around the squall lines.

First Saltwater Fish

Fished with Rich D and family in the bay on Thursday. We had fun catching sea bass and fluke. The picture is of Brenna and her first salt water fish.

Cod, Pollick, Sea Bass, Ling, and Mahi

Fished with Dusty and crew today. We slid offshore to do a little deep water wreck fishing. We had a great time and caught keeper cod, sea bass, ling, and mahi. We also released some small pollock. Now that's a mixed bag.

Sharks

Fished with Rich D and crew yesterday. Had a great time sharking. We brought about a dozen to the boat up to around fifty pounds. All brown and dusky sharks.

Luc's First Tuna

Fished with Jay, Dave, Sean, Mike, and Luc. Luc caught his first yellowfin tuna. It was a nice 60 plus pound fish. He reeled it in with Dad's help. We also missed a white marlin. Would have liked to have seen more fish but it was a fun day.

Blacktip

Fished yesterday with Bob R and crew. We went sharking. Things were slow and we caught one brown shark and this nice blacktip shark. We also broke off a big dusky.

Mahi Swarm

Went offshore with George H yesterday. We fished the Wilmington canyon. We had a disappointing start and missed three white marlin in the first fifteen minutes as we were putting out the spread. Things turned around and we got covered up with mahi. At one point we had a mahi on all six rods and we only had three people! We brought all six to the boat. None were less than ten pounds and the biggest was close to 30 pounds. As soon as I put the rods back in the water three more went off. Later in the day we got covered up again and brought four more to the boat along with another nice bull that was around 30 pounds. Lots of fun.

Sharks Return

Fished Monday with Tom M and crew for sharks. The bite had gotten a little funny but the fish returned and bit well for us. We ended up releasing several brown and dusky sharks. We had three big ones that weighed 80, 90, and 100 pounds respectively.

Flounder on the Bay

Fished with Bill and Eric today. The strong tides made the fluke bite tough early on but it greatly improved when the tide slowed. We also had a swipe or two by stripers but failed to connect. We ended up catching several short fluke and had a good time.

Night Stripers

Fished with John S last night. We flyfished for bass in the dark. Despite hearing and seeing a lot of fish we only brought one to the boat. It was a nice fish though.

Fluke and Seabass

Fished with Paul W and crew. We split our time between the bay and the ocean catching sea bass and fluke.
